Five Really Disturbing Movies You’ve Probably Never Even Heard Of
Yes, I know, us Filmletes aren’t supposed to be pretentious. Well, when it comes to horror, I just can’t help it. I’m not saying I know more than you about horror films, I’m sure I don’t. It’s just that these movies are obscure, and I just happen to know about them.
The genre of horror gets a bad rap anyway. Of course there are all sorts of sites dedicated to the love of horror film (such as Bloody-Disgusting and FearNet), but most people consider them all cheesy with horrible acting. And that’s usually the case. But there are those movies that just stick with you, the ones that really disturb you and that’s what these movies did to me.
1. Calvaire (The Ordeal)
I immediately wanted to see this movie when I saw the trailer. While it is sub-titled (French) which I know, can be annoying, it will draw you in and keep you watching through the entire, music-deprived (besides one really creepy scene) movie until you’ve taken the DVD out and laid in your bed wide awake all night. Just watch it and find out…
2. High Tension
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite horror films is the remake of The Hills Have Eyes. The director, Alexander Aja, directed this horribly disturbing film some years before that, and I guarantee, despite its gore factor, will disturb the pants off of anyone. If not, I’m not sure I want to know what you’ve seen in your lifetime.
3. Audition
Japanese horror may sometimes get ruined by us Americans, but Audition has yet to find its way into a U.S. remake. Probably because it’s just too darned disturbing. While I was bored through some of it, and confused through the rest, this one’s not for the weak. Or the strong. Or the mildly strong, but weak in certain areas…
4. I Spit on Your Grave
Even more disturbing than this movie, is the fact that they’re doing a remake. While I’m slightly excited, I’m also a little frightened. This is one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen and if you’re sensitive to rape (sorry, that’s a ridiculous statement, I know) you might want to steer clear of this one.
5. 2001 Maniacs
I never thought I’d see Robert Englund in another movie aside from A Nightmare On Elm Street. I’m sure he’s been in some, I just never thought I’d see one. Well, here he is. While this movie has all the ingredients of a really bad horror film, it also has some really disturbing scenes in it.
If you’re in the mood to puke, lose sleep or you just really like to be disturbed, pick out one of these disgusting movies and have fun. Or, you could have a nice little horror marathon… don’t forget to thank Filmletes.
If you know of any more horribly disturbing horror films, feel free to list them below in the comments.
